Jayant Yadavhas joined Puducherry for the 2025-26 domestic season, marking the end of a 14-year-long association with Haryana. He represented Haryana since the 2011/12 season. Haryana Cricket Association has granted a No Objection Certificate to the off-break bowler.
It is understood that Jayant’s decision is stems from his ambition to be a multi-format player. He has not been a regular part of the white-ball squads for Haryana since the 2023-24 season, the same year in which Haryana emerged as the winners of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nishant Sindhu and Rahul Tewatia, according to ESPNcricinfo, have been preferred over Jayant.
Jayant Yadav scalped 28 wickets in eight matches for Haryana in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. The quarter-final clash against Mumbai was Jayant’s last outing for Haryana. He picked three wickets and scored 40 runs across two innings in his team’s 152-run defeat.
Jayant joins Puducherry with a wealth of experience. He has picked 265 wickets in 90 First-Class matches and has scored 2924 runs with 14 half-centuries and three centuries.
He will be joining Mumbai’s wicketkeeper-batter Siddhant Adhatrao and Madhya Pradesh’s allrounder Puneet Datey at Puducherry. The 35-year-old is supposed to be late replacement for Armaan Jaffer, the nephew of former India batter Wasim Jaffer.
Speaking of his international record, Jayant has represented India in six Tests and two ODIs. As far as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is concerned, he has played for three franchises so far: Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils), Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Although being contracted with GT, he did not play any matches in 2024 and 2025.
While aother chance of playing for India seems out of the picture, Jayant has the opportunity of making a mark on Puducherry cricket. Puducherry finished eighth in the Elite Group B in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. They finished fifth in Group C of the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
