The 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a roller-coaster ride so far. After team India dominated the first two Tests of the series to retain the series, Australia made a resilient comeback in Indore to clinch the win in the third game. As both sides geared up to face each other in the fourth Test of the series in Delhi, the visitors got off to a fabulous start to the fourth Test thanks to sensational knocks by Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green.

Khawaja scored 180 runs, whereas Green further mounted the pressure on India with a stellar knock of 114 runs. Both batters were integral for the Aussies as they notched up 480 runs on the board after the first innings. Green’s maiden Test century saw him earn praise from many experts. One such individual was former Australian skipper Kim Hughes who even opined that Green could go on to become the world’s best all-rounder.

“I’ve said for a number of years now that provided he keeps himself fit, he’ll be the world’s best allrounder by a long way. I’ve got absolutely no doubt about that,” Hughes told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“His bowling action is so easy. And I don’t mean a one-day allrounder. There are lots of blokes that can bat a bit and bowl a bit. But he will be good enough to bat in any side in the world. If he was just a batter he could bat at four and if he was just a bowler he could open the bowling,” he added.

India look to score some big runs on Day 3

After Australia’s fabulous performance with the bat, India will also look to follow it up in a similar manner. After skipper Rohit Sharma’s soft dismissal, Shubman Gill replied back in kind as the 23-year-old completed his half century and has found a dependable batting partner in veteran, Cheteshwar Pujara. After Rohit Sharma’s dismissals, the hosts have kept the scoreboard ticking and looking good for another good partnership.

Currently, Gill is batting on 76 with India looking strong with 152/1 on the board after 51 overs. Pujara also batting well and inching closer to his half century. It will be interesting to see if Gill can get a memorable century and then aim to extend it further just like Usman Khawaja.
