3 Reasons Why STKNP Lost to TKR in the 4th Match of CPL 2025

3 Reasons Why STKNP Lost to TKR in the 4th Match of CPL 2025

On August 17 at Basseterre, fans got their money’s worth as the fireworks went off in a T20 where the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots appeared primed for the win and looked set to chase down a massive total of 232, before losing by 5 runs in CPL 2025. The chase for the Patriots started badly. Kyle Mayers and Andre Fletcher took the score to a decisive 80-run opening partnership before the disappointment in chasing this score started to sink in, just as the increasing overs came.

Middle-Order Meltdown in CPL 2025

While the Patriots’ innings began positively, it collapsed badly in the middle, and with Mayers and Fletcher out in little time, the pressure fell on Rilee Rossouw, Mikyle Louis, and Holder to recover from the edge-of-collapse collapse. Rossouw was a little stupid with a score of 38 off 24 balls, yet falling wickets at unfortunate times meant no one in the line-up was able to put pressure back on the bowlers.

Mikyle Louis had a partnered effort into the open, only to get out of each crease and be stumped. Jyd Goolie ducked to expose a middle order that could not cope in any pressure situations at all. While on isolation, the collapse was not dramatic – slow bleeders, red flags everywhere, Trinbago could only be happy to see it all now, a chink in the armour.

Colin Munro’s T20 Blitzkrieg

If there was a player who turned the match today, it was Colin Munro. Opening for the Trinbago Knight Riders, Munro launched a 120-run attack off just 57 balls, leaving the bowlers of the Patriots scrambling. Jason Holder and Dominic Drakes offered some resistance, but Munro’s outrageous shots – slapping and upping when he felt like it – set a scoring level that no chasing team could ever hope to chase.

Before Munro fell in the 19th over, the scoring had already gone up to 231, and even Holder’s 44 off 22 was not going to cut it. Munro was not just a thorn in the side of the patriots; he was a hurricane: a storm, ripping the Patriots’ plans to shreds, and forcing every bowler into survival mode.

Bowling Inefficiency in Death Overs

The Patriots’ bowlers, with Usman Tariq, we believe to be the standout with four wickets, including two in the 15th, were excellent, but extras, short balls that were off target, and failing to bowl any kind of line-and-length meant Trinbago were still able to build a score. Freddie Hall and Mohammad Amir also provided something as wickets, but ultimately, Munro and Alex Hales made sure the Patriots always felt pressed, at over 11 an over.

The extras from the Patriots also tallied to 19 (wides, no balls, and leg byes), which only helped Trinbago in their onslaught. In the death overs, not being able to bowl yorkers or slow them down meant what could have been a close chase turned into a 12-run loss.

When the last ball had been bowled and the Patriots were all out for 219/7, you could feel the disappointment. The match was there to be won, but the combination of the middle order failing, Munro’s onslaught, and a failure to bowl at the right time conspired against them.
