[WATCH] ENG vs IND 2025: Akash Deep’s fiery celebration ends in friendly send-off to Ben Duckett

India’s pacer Akash Deep broke through England’s solid opening stand by removing the dangerous Ben Duckett on Day 2 of the fifth and final Test at The Oval. India had a forgettable start to Day 2, losing their last four wickets for just six runs, collapsing from 218/6 to 224 all-out. Gus Atkinson led the English attack with a brilliant 5 for 33, along with Josh Tongue, who removed Karun Nair and then helped clean up the tail.

In reply, England openers Zak Crawley and Duckett played a counterattacking innings. Both batters raced to a 92-run opening stand in just 12.5 overs, scoring at nearly seven runs per over. Duckett looked at his aggressive best as he was finding boundaries at ease.

However, Deep found provided the breakthrough. In the 13th over, he bowled a full delivery on off-stump, which Duckett tried to reverse-scoop and managed to get an edge that went straight to the keeper Dhruv Jurel. Deep followed it with an aggressive celebration as he pumped his fist right in front of Duckett, but then walked up and put his arm around the southpaw’s shoulder, and shared a few words.

KL Rahul pulled Akash back to avoid any escalation. The umpire, Ahsan Raza, had a brief word with the bowler after the incident. Meanwhile, Duckett walked back after a 38-ball 43, lacing his knock with five boundaries and two sixes.

The first session of Day 2 belonged to the home team as they not only cleaned up India’s tail but also had an aggressive start to their first innings with the bat. By Lunch, England’s scorecard read 109/1, with Crawley and Ollie Pope on the crease as the team trails by 115 runs.
