ENG vs IND: With the ongoing series against England on the line with India trailing 2-1, the fifth and final Test of the at The Oval serves as a crucial contest for the Shubman Gill-led unit. They have had their moments throughout the series. However, the hosts have come out on top more often at the decisive moments.
India’s sole victory was the 336-run triumph in the second Test at Edgbaston after England’s five-wicket win in the series-opening encounter at Headingley. England regained the lead after clinching the subsequent fixture at Lord’s by 22 runs. The fourth Test in Manchester ended in a hard-fought draw after it looked nearly certain that India would lose by an innings.
ENG vs IND 5th Test: 3 key changes India must make to win
3. Akash Deep for Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah’s workload has been a recurring discussion throughout the series. Akash Deep was called in to replace Bumrah in the second Test at Edgbaston and the right-arm medium pacer did exceedingly well, claiming a 10-wicket haul (10/187) to seal a comprehensive win for his team. Deep was a tad bit unlucky with the ball in the next game, after which he was ruled out due to a groin injury.
With Bumrah set to miss the Oval Test, Deep seems likely to get another shot. He has the ability to bowl in consistent channels and trouble the batters with the extra zip he extracts off the deck. Deep would be the perfect foil for an already-burdened Mohammed Siraj.
2. Arshdeep Singh for Anshul Kamboj

Anshul Kamboj did not have an international debut to remember after coming into the XI to replace Deep in the fourth match. Kamboj bowled quite decently in India A’s matches against England Lions, but he was unable to replicate the same in his debut outing, as he ended up with figures of 1/89 in 18 overs in the only innings India bowled.
Arshdeep Singh promises to be a much better alternative than Kamboj as of now. He is yet to make his red-ball debut, and the fifth Test might just be his opportunity to shine at the international level. The left-hander’s angle in addition to the ability to move the ball both ways could serve as a valuable asset for India.
1. Dhruv Jurel for Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the final Test with a fractured toe. He had to retire hurt after a reverse-sweep during India’s first innings in the fourth match went wrong. Although he returned valiantly to get to a half-century, Pant was unable to keep for the entirety of the match, with Dhruv Jurel doing quite a solid job with the gloves.
The fourth Test was not the first time when Jurel was called in as Pant’s replacement. He filled in for the southpaw at Lord’s after Pant suffered a blow to his finger while keeping. Jurel was yet another player who impressed with scores of 94, 53*, 52 and 28 in the four innings against England Lions. He even possesses a solid defensive technique.
