India are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. They can’t afford to lose the fourth Test, which takes place at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, starting on Wednesday, July 23.
India have dominated most of the days in the three Tests that have been played so far. However, England have seized their opportunities in key moments to take the lead in the series. The third Test at Lord’s was a riveting affair, with India emerging victorious by 22 runs on the final day.
India have never won a Test match at Old Trafford. The Asian giants have played nine Test matches at the venue, losing four and drawing five.
Top-order

Yashasvi Jaiswal has blown hot and cold in the series so far. He started with a century in the first Test and followed it up with a half-century in the second. However, there have been low scores in the four other innings he has played. Yashasvi is averaging 38.38 in the series.
On the other hand, KL Rahul has been in exemplary form. He has shown the ability to grind it out in tough conditions and soften the new ball. The 33-year-old is averaging 62.50 after six innings.
Meanwhile, Karun Nair has had a disappointing run on his international comeback. In six innings, he is averaging a paltry 21.83. The Jodhpur-born might get one last opportunity to showcase his potential at Old Trafford.
Middle-order

Captain Shubman Gill is the leading run-getter in the series, having an average of over 100. He was not among the runs in the third Test but expect him to come back strongly in Manchester.
Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury on Day 1 of the third Test and had to relinquish wicketkeeping responsibilities. However, he batted through pain in the first innings and scored a valiant half-century. Pant has started keeping wickets at practice and he is expected to be fit for the Manchester Test.
Ravindra Jadeja has been exemplary, especially with the bat. The Saurashtra all-rounder has made some important contributions batting with the lower-order. However, he has only picked up three wickets in as many Tests at an average of 110.33.
Washington Sundar has played two Tests so far. He has shown the ability to provide important runs lower down the order. In the second innings of the third Test, he bagged a four-for to showcase his bowling prowess.
Shardul Thakur played the first Test before Nitish Kumar Reddy replaced him. The latter has been ruled out of the series, opening the door for Thakur’s comeback. His experience could come in handy for India.
Bowlers

Jasprit Bumrah has been in scintillating form once again. He will get a good amount of help from the surface. His burst with the new ball is going to be crucial.
Akash Deep might not be available for this Test as he is recovering from a groin injury. Prasidh Krishna, who played the first two Tests and concede runs at an economy rate of 5.34, might get another chance to prove his mettle.
Mohammed Siraj will be high on confidence after his sensational performance in the last two Tests. If Deep misses out, Siraj will be seen sharing the new ball with Bumrah.
India’s predicted XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj.
