Reports: UAE to host Afghanistan-Bangladesh T20I series in October

Ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are reportedly in talks to play a three-match T20I series in the UAE in October 2025. While official confirmation is yet to be made, discussions between the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are ongoing, with early October being considered for the series.

This proposed T20I series is a continuation of the originally planned all-format tour that was to be held in July 2024. That tour was supposed to feature two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, but was later limited to a white-ball series due to scheduling and weather concerns. The revised plan to host the matches in Greater Noida, India, also failed because of monsoon season challenges and Bangladesh’s busy calendar.

Eventually, both sides played a three-match ODI series in November 2024 in the UAE, where Afghanistan clinched the series 2-1. However, the postponed T20Is are set to be played after both boards have been keen to revive the remaining leg. According to BCB and ACB officials, talks have begun regarding the rescheduled T20I leg.

“We have already started our discussion with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) regarding the series that was postponed earlier and hope to discuss further after Ramadan and we are hoping to play three T20Is as we are considering it as part of our preparation for the T20 World Cup,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told Cricbuzz.

An ACB representative also mentioned that the series could take place between October 2 and 12, pointing out a potential window in the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP). If finalised, the series will slot in between the Asia Cup in September and Bangladesh’s home series against the West Indies, scheduled for the latter part of October.

For both teams, the series will serve as a preparation platform for the T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in early 2026. Afghanistan have a packed schedule leading up to the mega tournament, with tours to Zimbabwe, West Indies, and New Zealand planned. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are actively looking to fine-tune their squad combinations.

This will also be the first T20I face-off between the two nations since their encounter at the T20 World Cup 2024 in Kingstown, where Afghanistan’s win booked them a historic semi-final berth.
