Top 3 performances of Shaun Pollock in ODIs

Top 3 performances of Shaun Pollock in ODIs

Legendary all-rounder, Shaun Pollock, played a huge role for South African cricket during the late ’90s and early 2000s. Across 303 ODIs, he took 393 wickets at an economy of just 3.67. With the bat, he hammered over 3500 runs. Pollock also captained South Africa during a tough period and won 59 of the 92 ODIs.

3. 5/23 vs Pakistan, 2007

His third-best performance in this format came in 2007 against Pakistan in Durban. The veteran saved his best for the final ODI. He picked up an impressive five-wicket haul for just 23 runs. His spell dismantled Pakistan’s batting order, bowling them out for just 153. South Africa chased down the target comfortably. Notably, this was his fifth five-wicket haul, and he won the Player of the Match and player of the series.

2. 5/20 vs England, 2000

In the tri-series final against England in 2000, Pollock produced a match-winning spell. Batting first, the Proteas managed to post 149 runs. During the second innings, the right-arm pacer ran through England’s top order, finishing with figures of 5 for 20. His spell broke the back of England’s chase, leading to one of South Africa’s most memorable comeback wins in ODI cricket.

1. 6/35 vs West Indies, 1999

One of his best ODI spells came against the West Indies at Port Elizabeth in 1999. Despite South Africa ending on the losing side, Pollock impressed everyone with his bowling efforts as he picked six wickets for just 35 runs in his 10 overs. Even though the Proteas could not chase the target, Pollock’s effort ensured the West Indies did not cross 300. These are his career-best figures in ODIs.
