Mitchell Starc became the fourth Australian to pick up 400 wickets in Tests during the third Test of the three-match series between West Indies and Australia. The aforementioned match, which his team ended up winning  by 176 runs in Kingston, was also his 100th game in the format.

The seasoned left-arm pacer became the fourth Australian to join the 400-wicket club after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon. To round off the landmark outing, he attained his best-ever innings (6/9) haul till date after making his debut in December 2011.

List of Australian bowlers with 400-plus Test wickets (as of July 15, 2025):

Player Matches Innings Average Strike Rate Economy Wickets
Shane Warne 145 273 25.41 57.49 2.65 708
Glenn McGrath 124 243 21.64 51.95 2.49 563
Nathan Lyon 139 259 30.14 61.39 2.94 562
Mitchell Starc 100 192 27.02 47.49 3.41 402

Speaking of Starc’s 100th Test, Australia emerged as victors by a comprehensive 176-run margin at Sabina Park. Apart from him, Josh Hazlewood (1/10 in five overs) and Scott Boland (3/2 in two overs) were amongst the wickets too. Starc was majorly responsible for the batting meltdown and scripted history by picking up the fastest five-wicket haul in the history of Test cricket (15 deliveries).

Starc was right on the money from the very first over of the fourth innings. He dismissed John Campbell (zero off one), Kevlon Anderson (zero off four), and Brandon King (zero off one) in a triple-wicket maiden to kickstart proceedings for the visiting team. He ended up with seven wickets in the game.

Starc’s venomous spell was so iconic that it has overshadowed Boland’s hat-trick, the first time it has happened in pink-ball Tests. The hosts were shot out for just 27 while attempting to chase down 204 for victory. This was the second-lowest total in the history of Test cricket.
