Predicting HH’s Playing XI for the 7th Match Against CD in GSL 2025

In a dramatic finish, the Hobart Hurricanes (HH) were edged out by a single run by the Rangpur Riders in their most recent GSL 2025 match. Even though that was a gut-wrenching finish, their performance gave more than just a flash of brilliance on which they can build! HH will look to turn their fortunes when they take on the Central Districts (CD). Their squad balance looked promising in their last match, but now, after some individual standouts, it is easier to interpret the likely playing XI for match 7.

Captain Ben McDermott keeps leading from the front and was purposeful in the last game. His 34 off 19 balls came at a mind-boggling strike rate of 178.94 and set up the Hurricanes to a hot start in the chase. McDermott’s immense ability to find the gaps early, along with his power-hitter capabilities, makes him a no-brainer at the top of the order.

With him, Macalister Wright deserves another go. While he produced a mere 14 runs the previous time round, his method against spin and pace aligns with conditions in Guyana. Considering Bhanuka Rajapaksa was dismissed cheaply for just 1 run, HH might also give Wright a longer rope at the top, given his local form and temperament.

Middle Order

Jake Doran is going to, more often than not, hold the important No. 4 position. Although Doran only scored 9 runs in the last game, his ability to rotate the over and remain calm during tense situations helps keep the innings together.

Mohammad Nabi, previously coming in at No. 6 for his last game, was the standout batting performance from an HH perspective. He was just short of clinching the game, thanks to a fantastic 44 off 36. The veteran Afghan has great experience and knows how to accelerate, making him key in the middle order.

The last outing saw Fabian Allen turn in a performance that was a bit of a mixed bag. He took two wickets but was expensive, surrendering 38 runs in his four overs. With the bat, he was ineffective. Nevertheless, given that Allen can take early wickets in the powerplay and the ability to hit late-order, he remains in the XI.

Odean Smith also had a cameo (20 off 13), and he also got one wicket. Smith’s aggressive intent with the bat and raw pace also make him another key all-rounder capable of impacting a game in a matter of overs.

In the last match, Usama Mir shone brightest with the ball for HH, finishing with remarkable figures of 3/15 in 4 overs. His accuracy, variations, and the use of flight to confuse batters were on display. The slow Guyana pitch will suit the leg-spinner for the games where spin will play a big role.

Billy Stanlake was wicketless in the last match, but he bowled at a good pace. His economy of 9.33 was inaccurate, but his pace and bounce gave the batters trouble using the new ball, a nd still, you cannot discount his value as a summary.

With seasoned players like McDermott and Nabi steering the ship, and game-changers like Usama Mir and Fabian Allen at their disposal, HH is in a great position to bounce back strongly against the Central Districts. Their narrow loss in the last game should serve only to enhance their appetite. Expect the Hurricanes to come out with guns blazing with a perfectly balanced XI looking to secure a vital win in GSL 2025.
