Former Indian cricketer, Ravi Shastri, weighed in on Zak Crawley’s time-wasting tactics in the final over of Day 3 of the third Test of the ongoing series between England and India. He felt that these sort of mind games was all part and parcel of the game and could be expected in a high-octane contest such as the one between the two teams.

Shastri opined that he was alright with Crawley’s actions and it was but natural for any player to have acted that way considering the juncture of the clash.

“Now, if I’m wearing the Indian hat, I would have done all that. You know, we call it Tamasha (drama). All that is allowed on the field of play. You want all that. You know, you can’t just have ‘good morning, good evening, go home’. You know, a little bit of argy-bargy is OK in the middle, as long as you don’t cross the line. So I’m OK with all that,” shared Shastri while speaking to Sky Sports Cricket.

For the unversed, England faced only one over on the third day’s play. An additional one could have easily fit in, however, Crawley once stopped Jasprit Bumrah midway through his run-up and later signaled for the physio to attend his finger after being hit on the glove.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill was clearly displeased with Crawley’s actions and confronted him. Quite a few of India’s players were spotted clapping their hands in a rather sarcastic way for what they perceived as an act Crawley was putting on deliberately to waste time.

The first and the only over of the hosts’ second innings yielded two runs. England would be aiming on enhancing their lead by scoring at a brisk rate on the fourth day.
