Shaun Marsh was one of the highly talented players, whose career could not last long due to the established stars when he was young and injuries in the later part of his career. The southpaw had a solid technique and was consistent for almost all teams he played. In the longest format of the game, he got a decent number of chances in the 2010s.

Marsh retired from all forms of cricket in January 2024. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka and smashed a ton to announce himself in style. On a tricky surface in Pallekele, Sri Lanka batted first and were dismissed for 174, thanks to a collectively good performance from the rival bowling unit. In reply, Australia scored 411/7 before declaring their innings. On debut, Shaun Marsh scored 141(315) and showed what he was capable of. The match ended in a draw, as Australia couldn’t dismiss Sri Lanka in the second innings.

At the other end, Marsh batted well and scored 182 (266), which included 15 fours and a six. Their record partnership of 449 runs for the fourth wicket took the game away from the West Indies.

Batting first, South Africa scored 397 runs in the first innings. Marsh was the best batter of the innings, who scored 148(288), which included 15 fours. In reply, South Africa was folded up for 206. Australia scored 290 in their second innings, of which Marsh scored 44(84) against an attack featuring Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, and Vernon Philander. Australia ended up winning the Test by a huge margin of 281 runs.
