Top 3 bowling performances by Indian players at Edgbaston 

India is set to play a five-match test series against England in what will be the first assignment for both sides in the new World Test Championship Cycle. The home side had the first laugh in the test series as they defeated India by five wickets in a historic run chase at Headingley. The second test is set to commence at the iconic test venue, Edgbaston in Birmingham from July 2nd. India has previously played eight test matches at this venue. The Indian side is yet to win a test match at this venue  The men in blue lost their last encounter at Edgbaston by 31 runs when the team toured in 2018. However Indian bowlers have delivered some noteworthy performances at this venue.

The greatest all-rounder in the history of Indian cricket got his five-wicket haul when all others around him were taken to cleaners by the English batters at the Edgbaston test in 1979. The Harayana hurricane scalped all English wickets in the first innings of the test that saw the hosts post a mammoth total of 633 runs on the board. England went on to beat India comfortably in that match.

Ishant Sharma made an impressive start in the third innings of the 2018 Edgbaston Test, delivering a standout performance. He achieved figures of 5 for 51 in just 13 overs, helping to dismiss the hosts for a mere 180 runs. In the process, he successfully trapped notable batsmen such as Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, and Ben Stokes, ultimately completing his five-wicket haul with the dismissal of Stuart Broad. Despite his remarkable effort, India ultimately lost the match.

Chetan Sharma holds the distinction of being the only Indian cricketer to achieve a six-wicket haul in an innings at Edgbaston in Test matches. This remarkable feat occurred during the third innings of the 1986 match, where Chetan’s exceptional bowling performance led to the dismissal of the England team for just 235 runs. He took four wickets from the top five batters before dismantling the tail end. Ultimately, Chetan finished with figures of 6 wickets for 58 runs from 24 overs, and the match concluded as a draw.
