England’s Top 3 performers from the 1st Test against India at Leeds

Team India suffered a heartbreaking defeat to hosts England in the first Test match of the five-match series at Headingley, Leeds, on June 24th. In a tight contest, the Three Lions chased down 371 runs on the last day of the match to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Ben Stokes and his men registered the second-highest chase ever in Leeds and also the second-highest ever with a five-wicket win on the final day of the Test match.

While the visitors had their moments, the hosts never lost their belief in the first Test match. The side was calm, calculated, and fearless throughout the five days of the game. The players weren’t in a rush, but they were not overly cautious either. Speaking about the same subject, given below are the top three performances from the first Test match against India.

1. Ben Stokes’s captaincy and all-round performance

Skipper Ben Stokes made a tactical decision to bowl first on the batting-friendly pitches after winning the toss. Skipper Stokes picked up four and one wicket in the first and second innings of the game. He also made 20 and 33 runs in the first Test match to help England win the opening Test match. His playing style with composed leadership was one of the major factors that guided them to take a 1-0 lead in the first Test match.

2. Ben Duckett’s hitting

England’s opening batter has made 149 off 170 balls, featuring 21 fours and one six, to help England chase down over 350 runs on the fifth and final day of the Test match. The star batter’s innings posed a big threat to Indian bowlers, making them lose this clash.

3. Ollie Pope’s form

The England star batter has made 106 off 137 and allowed his team to reach the target in the first innings of the game. His partnership with Harry Brook never put the pressure on the host batters ahead of the second innings. Pope’s batting in a pressure situation was the game-changer moment.
