South Africa’s pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada made a massive impact on the biggest stage, striking twice in a single over during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 against Australia at Lord’s on June 11. The 30-year-old pacer swung the momentum in South Africa’s favour early in the match.

South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne opened the innings for Australia, while Rabada and Marco Jansen took the new ball for the Proteas.

Khawaja, the leading run-scorer for Australia in this WTC cycle, struggled to get off the mark. He was facing immense pressure and played out several dot balls before falling in the seventh over. On the third ball of the over, Rabada bowled a length delivery outside the off-stump. The ball stayed slightly low and jumped off the surface, which caught Khawaja by surprise. He attempted a defensive stroke, edging it thickly to the left of first slip, where David Bedingham took a clean catch. Khawaja walked back without scoring.

Cameron Green walked in next and drove the very first ball he faced from Rabada for a four. But Rabada had the last laugh. On the final delivery of the over, he bowled a fuller ball that angled in and then shaped away late. The right-hander tried to keep it in front of him, but edged it to Aiden Markram at second slip. Despite Wiaan Mulder obstructing his view with a dive, Markram held on to a sharp, low catch with composure.

Australia suddenly found themselves in trouble, losing two key wickets in four balls. His fiery over rattled the Australian top order and gave South Africa an early upper hand in the Ultimate Test.
