England (ENG) have announced their playing XI for the second ODI of the series against the West Indies (WI) at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Holding a 1-0 lead in the series after beating the visiting side by 238 runs in the first ODI at Edgbaston, the hosts have made no changes apart from a forced one due to Jamie Overton‘s injury.

The right-arm pacer broke the little finger of his right hand and has been ruled out of the remainder of the series. As per the ECB’s statement, Overton will undergo rehabilitation for a quick recovery. Matthew Potts has replaced him in the XI for the second ODI. Apart from that, England will continue with the same team as in the first ODI.

“New England Men’s white-ball captain Harry Brook has been forced into one change after Jamie Overton was ruled out of the remainder of the series with a broken right little finger. Matthew Potts has been selected to come in as his replacement and is set to make his 10th ODI appearance for England,” the ECB’s statement read as per their press release.

What happened in first ODI between England and West Indies?

In the first ODI, England delivered a dominant performance with both bat and ball. The home side posted 400/8 after batting first. Jacob Bethell was the pick of the batters, scoring 82 (53). Every batter in England’s top seven contributed with runs. Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, and Will Jacks all batted well.

With the ball, England benefited from the scoreboard pressure. The home side consistently took wickets and maintained control over the visiting side. The 2019 World Cup winners dismissed the two-time World Champions for just 162, securing a huge win to go 1-0 up in the series.
