Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took a dig at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Avesh Khan after a thrilling six-wicket win at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 27, 2025. The dig wasn’t just about the win but also about Avesh’s infamous helmet celebration from IPL 2023.

Back in IPL 2023, the pacer made headlines for flinging his helmet onto the ground in a celebration after LSG’s narrow one-wicket victory over RCB. The gesture caught immense attention and was criticised by many for a lack of sportsmanship, and Avesh was reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct.

Coming to IPL 2025, RCB took a sweet revenge, after stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma guided his side to their highest successful run chase in the tournament history. After hitting the winning runs, the right-handed batter created a similar gesture, except he didn’t throw the helmet.

“Didn’t throw the helmet. We respect it,” RCB’s Instagram post read.

Meanwhile, RCB’s chase of 228 began with Virat Kohli (54) and Phil Salt (30) providing a solid start. But it was the stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma who was the star performer with the bat. Sharma, leading in the absence of injured Rajat Patidar, smashed an unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls at a strike rate of 257.58, including eight boundaries and six huge sixes. His unbroken 107-run partnership with Mayank Agarwal (41* off 23) ensured RCB crossed the finish line with eight balls to spare.

Earlier, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant saved his best for the last, smashing an unbeaten 118 off 61 as he took his side over the 200-run mark. The win not only confirmed RCB’s another victory but also secured them a top-two finish on the points table, placing them for a clash with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1.

“I can’t express my thoughts, I was thinking about just staying in the present. When Virat got out I thought of taking the game deep and that is what my mentor (Dinesh Karthik) tells me that the kind of calibre I have I can finish the game from any situation. This is a very big franchise and I am enjoying the pressure and when I see these players (like Virat, Krunal and Bhuvi) I feel excited that I am getting to play with these players,” Jitesh said during the post-match interview.
