3 reasons why Mohammed Shami was not picked up for India’s Test squad

3 reasons why Mohammed Shami was not picked up for India's Test squad

The Indian Cricket Board has recently unveiled India’s squad for the five matches of the Test series against England. This announcement was unveiled in a press conference by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with Shubman Gill being named as a new Test skipper this time after Rohit Sharma’s retirement in the red ball game.

The squad has made one of the notable absentees in the series, which is star seamer Mohammed Shami, who has been playing all three formats of the game. The right-arm pacer was expected to lead the pace attack amid Bumrah’s fitness concerns, but his omission has raised eyebrows nowadays. He has always been the match-winner, and his bowling spells have guided the nation to win the match single-handedly, but his snub in the series made audacious headlines nowadays.

Given below are the three reasons that showcase why he has not been named in the Indian squad.

Fitness concerns

Team India chief selector Ajit Agarkar has stated that he is currently under medical supervision and is not yet match-fit to appear in the Test series. However, he has been playing well in IPL 2025.

Emergence of new fast bowling talents

The side has named new pacers in the teams who have been performing well in the IPL 2025. Shami failed to make his impact prominent for SRH this time. GT bowler Prasidh Krishna, however, has been outstanding form during IPL 2025. His performance has gained the trust of the Indian selectors, making his comeback again in the red ball game.

Targeted return for the future series

According to some reports, it has come to note that Shami is set to make his comeback in the Bangladesh Test series later this year. The BCCI has given him time to recover to stage his comeback with full fitness. This will allow him ample time to recover and regain match fitness.
