Former Gujarat captain Priyank Panchal announces retirement from all formats

Former Gujarat captain Priyank Panchal called time on his career via a heartfelt social media post on Monday, May 26. The 35-year-old top-order batter played a total of 127 First-Class games before announcing his retirement. The post was showered with a flurry of comments wishing him the best for his future endeavours.

He expressed immense gratitude to his late father for being his source of strength and courage to pursue his cricketing career. He also thanked his mother and sister to have had a positive influence over his confidence and the efforts he would put in, in his game. He concluded with a note of thanks to the fans, whom he thanked for motivating him to give it his all at each moment in his career.

Panchal registered 8856 runs in 127 domestic red-ball games (207 innings) for Gujarat. He averaged 45.18 which included a total of 34 fifties and 29 tons in what was an illustrious career. He has also secured 98 catches during his time playing the longest format of the game.

Panchal holds an illustrious record of being one of the few players to have struck a triple-ton (314* off 460 vs Punjab in Ranji Trophy 2016-17) in domestic cricket. Panchal has also played a total of 97 List A and 59 T20s.

Panchal captained his state team to their maiden Ranji Trophy title in the 2016-17 season. He has also won the Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012-13 & 2013-14).

Gujarat Cricket Association congratulated Panchal on his illustrious career by taking to X.
