Harsh Dubey will become a complete all-rounder by next IPL season: SRH head coach Daniel Vettori

Harsh Dubey will become a complete all-rounder by next IPL season: SRH head coach Daniel Vettori

Vidarbha’s left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey had a magnificent Ranji Trophy 2024-2025 season, where he finished with 69 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 16.99. The highest wicket-taker was fittingly adjudged Player of the Tournament after playing a significant role in Vidarbha’s run to the coveted title, where he also contributed brilliantly with the bat for his 476 runs in the season.

The 22-year-old was roped in as an injury replacement for Smaran Ravichandran midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for INR 30 lakh by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Dubey played SRH’s last three games of the season, and the Pat Cummins-led side won each of them.

On Sunday, May 25, Dubey bowled a brilliant spell against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), picking up the wickets of the deadly troika of Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh. He finished with figures of 3/34 in his four overs as SRH won by 110 runs after setting up a mammoth target of 279 for the defending champions.

After the match, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori lauded Dubey, highlighting the bowler’s intelligence and ability to use the conditions to his advantage.

“We’re very pleased with what he’s done since joining the team. He’s obviously a very clever bowler—he understands conditions well, knows how he needs to bowl, and can mix things up effectively. We were really looking for that bit of control, and he’s provided it in all three games he’s played so far,” said Vettori in the post-match press conference.

The former New Zealand spinner believes that in the coming months, Dubey will get more playing opportunities, and it will help him improve his batting skills.

“The great thing for him is that between now and the next IPL, he’ll be playing a lot of cricket, whether for India A or his domestic team. There will be plenty of opportunities for him, and we believe he can continue to grow—not just as a bowler, but also as a batter, which was an important part of our decision-making as well,” he added.

Dubey finished his maiden IPL 2025 campaign with five wickets from three games at an average of 19.60. He will now join the India A squad, which faces England Lions in two first-class matches, and another against the senior Indian side starting on Friday, May 30.
