IPL 2025: 3 reasons why Gujarat Titans lost against Lucknow Super Giants

IPL 2025 3 reasons why Gujarat Titans lost against Lucknow Super Giants

The Gujarat Titans suffered a 33-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League, which took place on May 22 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The side has already made it to the playoffs, but this loss might cost them if they will not be able to make it to the top two in the points table.

The LSG has posted 235/2 in the given 20 overs of the game. However, GT tried extremely hard but managed to get 202, losing this encounter by 33 runs. Given below are the three major reasons why they have suffered defeat against LSG in this game.

Mitchell Marsh’s century

The LSG opening batter has made history after he struck a stellar century against the IPL 2022 champions. Marsh has made 117 off 64 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and four sixes, with a solid strike rate of 182. The bowlers failed to dismiss him early in the game, which allowed the Australian T20I skipper to go big in this game. In addition, his partnership with Pooran was remarkable and crushed the GT bowlers.

The inability of pacers to pick the wickets

Experienced pacers Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Prasidh Krishna failed to pick up wickets in this game. The inability of bowlers to perform well on their home turf makes them lose this crucial encounter. Siraj has been one of the best GT bowlers this time and has vast experience playing on this surface. Despite that, he failed to pick any wickets, which allowed LSG batters to steal the limelight here. In addition, Prasidh Krishna came as an impact player but remains wicketless in this game.

Top-order batter’s flop show

The Gujarat Titans batters were not able to stitch together a long stand in this game. None of the top four batters even crossed the 50-run mark if they were chasing such a huge total. They all departed in their thirties, making them lose this game. GT all-rounder Shahrukh Khan just made 57, while none of the batters stood up as they were chasing such a big total.
