Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to undergo a surgery on his left hamstring after the completion of IPL 2025. He is facing a hamstring issue since the past five years. However, his international commitments with the Indian team as their all-format captain meant he could not undergo necessary treatment.

Now that he has only one format to focus after retiring from T20Is in 2024 and Tests earlier this month, he is said to address the issue after his time with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. The last time he had a surgery was in November 2016 when he got his right upper quadriceps tendon treated. It took around three months for optimal recovery.

“If Rohit wants to play the 2027 World Cup, this is the right time to get the surgery done. He has been putting it off for years because of leadership duties, but now the schedule allows him to recover without rushing back,” a source close to the development told CricBlogger.

India‘s 50-over schedule is not as packed, which provides Rohit time to recover fully. The Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in a six-match limited-overs series in August. After that, the next confirmed ODI series is against Australia in October.

The post-IPL 2025 period could prove the ideal time for the India ODI skipper to have his issue treated once and for all. Rohit has previously clarified his aspirations to lead the nation in the World Cup in 2027, and going under the knife after the IPL would be ideal for him to plan his preparation for the mega event.
