Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered a comfortable six-wicket victory over the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 62nd match of the IPL 2025 which was held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This win marked RR’s fourth of the season by taking them to eight points and helped them to avoid the bottom spot on the points table.
CSK in the first innings posted a decent total of 187 runs on the board. Even after losing wickets at regular intervals, they were on the run by a few impactful knocks. The 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre played a quick knock in the powerplay by scoring 43 runs off just 20 balls to give CSK a flying start.
In the middle overs, Dewald Brevis contributed 42 off 25 balls, while Shivam Dube added 39 off 32 which ensured CSK reached a competitive total of 187-8 at the end of the 20 overs. For RR, Akash Madhwal stood out with figures of 3 for 29 in four overs, for which he was also awarded Player of the Match, while Yudhvir Singh also took three wickets but conceded 47 runs.
In the chase, RR sailed the target comfortably in 17.1 overs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a brisk 36 off 19 balls. In the middle overs, a 98-run partnership between 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and skipper Sanju Samson kept the scoreboard moving at a brisk pace, which meant there were no further hiccups in what could have made them choke at the end, like they had previously.
Suryavanshi played a fiery knock of 57 off 33 balls, while Samson supported well with 41 off 31 balls. Though CSK managed to take a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Dhruv Jurel finished things with an unbeaten 31* off just 12 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 2 for 41. CSK remains at the bottom in the points table with one game left against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 25.
