England have announced their white-ball squads for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, making it Harry Brook’s debut series as captain. The series, beginning on May 29 with the first of three ODIs at Edgbaston, will be followed by three T20Is. However, the squad announcement has already grabbed attention, with notable absentees including Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone.

The squad has been revamped after England’s disappointing campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they exited in the group stage without registering a win. With Jos Buttler stepping down from captaincy duties, Brook took over England’s white-ball captaincy.

While some familiar faces have been retained, the selectors have opted for a change. Former captain Buttler retains his place in both squads and is expected to play a crucial role, considering he is available amidst a potential scheduling conflict with the final stages of the IPL, where his side Gujarat Titans, are strong contenders to reach the playoffs.

Notably, Livingstone has been sidelined from both squads. Once seen as an important member in England’s middle order and even captain in Buttler’s absence, Livingstone’s form dip, which saw him score just 33 runs during the Champions Trophy, cost him a place in both the ODI and T20I lineups.

Similarly, Salt finds himself left out of the ODI squad despite being a regular top-order option in recent months. While Salt has been brilliant in the shortest format of the game, his inconsistency in converting starts in the 50-over game has led to his exclusion.

Jofra Archer to lead England’s ODI pace attack

Liam Dawson has been recalled for the T20Is after nearly three years. Furthermore, Tom Hartley has been named the primary left-arm spinner in the ODI squad, while Will Jacks has secured spots in both squads in Livingstone’s absence.

The bowling department sees the return of Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts, both recovering from injury setbacks. Jofra Archer leads the ODI pace attack alongside Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood, and Jamie Overton, but he has been rested for the T20Is. Luke Wood, last seen in September 2023, returns to the T20I setup.

England ODI squad: Harry Brook (Captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Potts, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith

England T20I squad: Harry Brook (Captain), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Potts, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Luke Wood
