The IPL has officially been suspended for one week until further notice because of the border conflicts between India and Pakistan, which have escalated significantly. There have been reports that the BCCI might be planning to look in the window of either August or September to resume the tournament, with 16 games to be played.

While some people believe this was the right move by the board keeping the interest of nation before the league, former England cricketer has made a suggestion to continue the tournament in the United Kingdom saying that they have all the venues available and the Indian players can also stay in the country and prepare for the upcoming five-match Test series against England that will take place on June. This has led to the former England Test skipper being trolled by the netizens on social media.

“I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues, and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series. Just a thought ?” Michael Vaughan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

When was IPL played on foreign soil?

Speaking of the IPL being played on foreign soil, the first time it happened was in 2009, when the league was held in South Africa due to the ongoing general elections that took place during that year. It was the now-defunct Deccan Chargers who won the title that season after defeating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The other seasons when the tournament was played outside India were in the first half of 2014, 2020 and the second half of 2021, which were hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the elections in 2014 and the COVID-19 outbreaks in 2020 and 2021.
