The game of T20 cricket has always favoured batters, but it seems that certain rule changes have now started to benefit bowlers as well. The lifting of the saliva ban and the provision to change the ball have provided bowlers with some advantage, creating a more level playing field.

Many experts and bowlers have welcomed these amendments introduced by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), including India and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) veteran pacer and 2025 Champions Trophy winner, Mohammed Shami. The 34-year-old fast bowler stated that not only does the use of saliva help the ball reverse more effectively, but the option to change the ball during the middle overs also aids bowlers in tough conditions. A drier ball offers significantly better grip, allowing bowlers to maintain their line and length more consistently throughout a match.

“For a long time, the rules have favoured batters — but now, things are finally shifting a bit. After COVID, the saliva ban made it tough to reverse the ball, but with that lifted, bowlers can finally get some swing back. Also, being able to change a wet ball is a big plus — a dry ball gives better grip and life, especially in tough conditions,” Shami said in an exclusive segment on JioHotstar.

SRH to host DC in crucial encounter

Speaking of Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the ongoing IPL 2025, they will now next face Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 5 May — a crucial fixture for both sides.

Delhi Capitals will be desperate for a win, as back-to-back defeats have left them in a precarious position, potentially missing out on the playoffs. Meanwhile, SRH will be fighting to steer clear of the bottom four by securing a much-needed result in their favour.
