[Watch] IPL 2025: Shubman Gill involved in heated exchange with umpire over DRS call overturned

In the ongoing Match No. 51 of the IPL 2025 between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the gigantic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, GT skipper Shubman Gill was seen in an animated confrontation with the on-field umpire Kannur Swaroopanand over a controversial DRS call.

Earlier, Titans posted 224/6 in their 20 overs, with Gill himself contributing with 76 off 38 balls. The home team looked in good position in the second innings with their bowlers putting pressure despite a solid start from SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. At the end of 14 overs, SRH were 127/2, still needing 98 runs from 36 balls, with Abhishek still at the crease at a score of 69* (38).

However, the heated exchange took place during the 14th over of SRH’s chase. GT opted to review an LBW appeal against Abhishek after he was hit on the toe by a yorker from Prasidh Krishna. The replays showed the impact was umpire’s call and the ball was hitting the stumps, allowing GT to retain the review. But the ball-tracking system notably did not display where the delivery had pitched.

Immediately after the decision, the GT skipper was seen engaging in a lengthy and agitated discussion with umpire Swaroopanand. Though the side had not lost their review, the Punjab batter looked annoyed by the missing pitching data in the DRS visuals. Abhishek also intervened to calm his Indian teammate. Eventually, Gill brought up a smile and ended the confrontation.

Notably, in the first innings, he had been involved in a heated argument with the fourth umpire following a contentious runout dismissal. Meanwhile, SRH, despite losing Head and Kishan, have their hopes on Abhishek and Klaasen.
