The home team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in IPL 2025. It was a tough start for the hosts because both openers fell cheaply during the powerplay.

The left-handed English all-rounder Sam Curran walked in after the first wicket fell and played a composed knock. The batter partnered up with Dewald Brevis, and they stabilised the innings by punishing easy deliveries.

In the 15th over, Azmatullah Omarzai bowled to Sam Curran and reached his half-century in style. He pushed a length delivery straight down the ground and ran a couple of quick runs to bring up his fifty. He celebrated the half-century and raised his bat to acknowledge the crowd and his teammates. He gestured towards the stands by making a calling gesture, which hinted at a personal message in his celebration.

The youngster Shaik Rasheed managed just 11 runs, and 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for 7. The veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja tried to make use of the powerplay but could only score 17 runs.

CSK is currently struggling at the bottom of the points table with only two wins so far in this year’s IPL, and is desperate to secure a victory in front of their home fans. PBKS, on the other hand, are placed fifth and are in the race for a playoff spot.

Earlier this season, PBKS defeated CSK by 18 runs in Mullanpur, by a sensational knock from the young left-hander Priyansh Arya (103 off 42), which included seven fours and nine sixes.
