3 reasons why Delhi Capitals (DC) lost the match in clash against RCB

3 reasons why DC lost the match in clash against RCB

Delhi Capitals, at their home ground in Delhi, lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a big margin of 6 wickets in the 46th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). With this defeat, DC also slipped to the fourth spot in the tournament’s points table, with six wins and three defeats in their nine games.

DC could post an average total of 162 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs in the first innings. While defending this total in the second innings, they had a good start, scalping 3 wickets of RCB at just 26 runs in 4 overs, but the visitors comfortably chased down the total in 18.3 overs and won the game by 6 wickets to move to the top spot in the tally.

Having said that, here we’ll have a look at the 3 reasons why DC lost the match in the clash against RCB at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

1. Batting collapse in the Top Middle order

DC got a quick start of 33 runs for the first wicket by their openers, Abishek Porel and Faf du Plessis, but they failed to convert it into a big partnership. Besides this, DC also faced a collapse and fall of wickets at regular intervals in the top middle order, which pushed them way before a big defendable total.

After losing the first wicket at the score of 33 runs, DC quickly lost four wickets at the score of 102 runs in 13.4 overs. Furthermore, they had lost 6 wickets at the score of just 120 runs in 16.5 overs. Eventually, the hosts found it difficult to recover from this collapse, and they could score only 162 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the 20 overs in the first half of the game.

2. Failed to capitalise on a good start in the second innings

DC were looking quite strong in the second innings during RCB’s run chase, when they had scalped 3 wickets of RCB at the score of just 26 runs in 4 overs. But then came the brilliant 119-run partnership between former RCB skipper Virat Kohli and star all-rounder Krunal Pandya for the fourth wicket.

The DC bowlers looked completely clueless in capitalising on the brilliant start in the second innings. It resulted in RCB batters dominating the DC bowling attack and losing only 1 wicket till they chased down the target successfully in 18.3 overs, scoring 165 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

3. Lack of Fielding Intent in the second innings

While defending the target, DC bowlers were not only the weak link for their side in the second innings. It was also the lack of fighting intent from the fielders as they missed a few crucial boundaries and catches in the second innings.

The poor efforts in the fielding also happened to cost the Delhi Capitals some important moments in the game and helped RCB batters to dominate the hosts throughout the entire run chase. It was one of the major reasons behind DC’s defeat against RCB in this game.
