Tamim Iqbal and a few other Bangladeshi cricketers made their way to the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur to speak out against the suspension handed to Towhid Hridoy. For the unversed, Hridoy was handed a two-match suspension for displaying disagreement with a couple of umpiring decisions during a recent Dhaka Premier League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited at the Shere Bangla Stadium.

There was a lot of confusion after Hridoy was suspended amid the chaotic situation relating to his premature return to the field after serving just one game out of his two-match ban. A whole host of questions have been raised regarding administrative inconsistencies within the domestic structure.

The chairperson of cricket operations of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who is also the newly appointed convener of the CCDM technical committee, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, confirmed today that the Mohammedan Sporting Club skipper will miss their clash against Gaza Group on Saturday, April 26.

The president of the BCB, Faruque Ahmed, arrived at the board’s premises to hold a discussion with Tamim, Mahmudullah, Shamim Hossain, and Shariful Islam regarding the policies of the administrative body and the entire flow of events which led to the situation.

Hridoy’s on-field outburst forces intervention from teammates

There were two separate instances during Abahani Limited’s innings when Hridoy lost his cool at the umpires. Hridoy argued with the on-field umpires on both occasions where LBW shouts were not given in his side’s favour. He was seen visibly agitated and displeased with the umpires. When Hridoy had a face-off with umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat, the duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz intervened to diffuse the situation.
