CSK vs SRH (43rd Match) – Highlights
In the 43rd match of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a crucial victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at Chepauk, Chennai. It was a night of disciplined bowling and calm batting, which was only interrupted by some excellent bowling from Harshal Patel, who was awarded Player of the Match. SRH chased down the target of 155 with 8 balls left in the very exciting mid-season match to keep their hopes alive of playing in the playoffs.
CSK, put into bat first, had a rocky start. Young opener Shaik Rasheed was dismissed for a duck in the very first ball of the match by Mohammed Shami, setting the tone for a challenging innings. Ayush Mhatre tried to steady things with a brisk 30 off 19 balls, finding boundaries regularly, but Pat Cummins got the better of him just when he looked dangerous.
The middle order couldn’t really capitalize, with Sam Curran falling early and Jadeja’s short 21-run stint also ending prematurely. Dewald Brevis was the standout performer for CSK with an explosive 42 off 25 balls, which included one four and four towering sixes. He gave the innings some much-needed momentum but eventually holed out to Kamindu Mendis off Harshal Patel, who was at his destructive best.
Patel bowled with purpose and variety, finishing with an impressive 4 for 28 in his 4 overs. He picked up key wickets including Brevis, Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad to derail CSK’s innings in the back end. The Super Kings crumbled from 114 for 4 to 154 all out in 19.5 overs, losing wickets at regular intervals. Jaydev Unadkat and Pat Cummins supported well with two wickets apiece, and the fielding from SRH was sharp, especially from Abhishek Sharma who took three catches.
Unlike CSK’s chase, there is no way SRH’s chase could be characterized as orderly. Abhishek Sharma, their opener, was dutifully ducked on the second ball of the innings, caught by Khaleel Ahmed. Travis Head showed some inclination to look fluent for a while before he eventually fell to Anshul Kamboj for 19. Ishan Kishan did a lot of heavy lifting with what was a very valuable 44 off 34 balls, with the right combination of aggression and caution as he partnered with others in the middle part of the innings.
The contributions came from Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Mendis played a mature innings taking time to settle in to come up with an adequate 32 from 22 balls while rotating the strike with ones, and two’s and punishing the bad balls. Reddy finished with 19 from 13 balls hitting 2 boundaries to see the side home in the penultimate over. Kahindo was best for CSK with the ball taking 2 for 42 but was no threat to defend the target.
