MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. In the 2nd over of the match, Trent Boult provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Travis Head.

The third over was handed to Deepak Chahar, with Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma at the crease.
