Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during Match No. 35 of the IPL 2025 season against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
“As this was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, Gill has been fined INR 12 lakhs,” said the official statement from IPL.
Unlike previous seasons, the IPL 2025 regulations no longer include player bans for repeat over-rate violations. Instead, offenders will receive fines, demerit points, and in-game penalties. Several players have already been penalised this season for similar offences, including Axar Patel (DC), Sanju Samson (RR), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), Riyan Parag (RR), and Hardik Pandya (MI).

In Saturday’s match, GT skipper won the toss and opted to field first under intense heat, with temperatures soaring up to 40 °c. The conditions forced several interruptions as players struggled with the heat. DC posted a competitive total of 203 runs, with contributions from their batting lineup. GT pacer Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets in his four-over spell.
Chasing 204, GT got off to a strong start with Jos Buttler leading the charge. He remained unbeaten on 97* off 54 balls, smashing 11 fours and 4 sixes. He was well supported by Sherfane Rutherford, who contributed 43 off 34 deliveries. The Titans chased down the target comfortably, winning by 7 wickets.
With this victory, GT climbed to the top of the points table, having won five out of their seven matches. They are now level on 10 points with Delhi Capitals but have a superior net run rate. This match also marked the halfway stage of the league phase, with all ten teams having completed seven games each.
