Delhi Capitals (DC) won a thrilling Super Over contest against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match No. 32 of the IPL 2025. As per many former cricketers, RR made a mistake by sending Shimron Hetmyer ahead of Nitish Rana to bat in the Super Over. However, Rana himself has come to the management’s defence and said that it was the ‘right’ decision at the end, but it eventually did not work out.

Hetmyer has been the finisher in the tournament, and sending him meant that RR were expecting some big hits from the player. However, that didn’t happen as planned. He could only hit a boundary and was run out later in the Super Over. RR scored just 12 runs, which they failed to defend in front of DC’s KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs.

Earlier in the game, the Delhi-born had scored 51 runs off 28 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 182.14, but wasn’t preferred to go out to bat in the Super Over. He went on to explain that the captain and two senior players took the decision alongside the RR management.

“The management takes the call, not one person. The captain is there along with two other senior players and coaches. If Shimron Hetmyer had hit two sixes, then you wouldn’t be asking this question. I will give the same answer. I don’t have any other answer. Whatever decision we took was absolutely right. Hetmyer is our finisher, that everyone knows. He has delivered in the past,” said Nitish Rana at the post-match press conference.

RR were chasing a target of 189 runs but failed to hit nine runs in the last over against Mitchell Starc, which led to the Super Over. Axar Patel showed great captaincy skills by saving Starc’s over for the last and then again using him in the Super Over. DC are now back at the top again, as they have become the first team to collect 10 points in the tournament, with five wins in six games.
