IPL 2025: 3 reasons why Lucknow Super Giants lost to Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why Lucknow Super Giants lost to Chennai Super Kings

The Lucknow Super Giants suffered a five-wicket defeat against the Chennai Super Kings in the 30th game of the Indian Premier League 2025, which took place on April 14 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

After being sent to bat first in the game, the hosts were able to rack up 166/7 in the given 20 overs of the game after the stellar batting performance from skipper Rishabh Pant. However, the five-time IPL champions chased down the total with three balls to spare in the game. Given below are the reasons that highlight why LSG lost this game.

1. Poor Death and Powerplay Bowling

The CSK side was 45/0 in just four overs of the game. The LSG bowlers completely faltered against the CSK batting unit in this game. The side could have gone for some wickets in the power plays. They conceded too many runs in death overs, which was the major reason why they failed to defend their target.

2. Poor Acceleration in the Middle Overs

LSG’s middle order failed to perform well in the game. Power hitter Ayush Badoni, who was expected to make big hits, was out just 20 runs. In addition, Abdul Samad and Shardul Thakur failed to step up when they were needed the most to post the big total this time. This middle-order batting collapse didn’t allow them to post a huge total.

3. Failure of their dependable Top 3

The top three batters failed to step up against CSK in this game. Aiden Markram was dismissed cheaply for just six runs, while Mitchell Marsh was only able to manage 30 runs. West Indies power hitter Nicholas Pooran failed to rise to the occasion. The left-handed batter departed for just 8 runs, where he was expected to do most of the damage against CSK on their home turf. The three batters seem very dependable for the franchise, and their batting collapse makes them lose the encounter, pushing them to sit at the bottom half of the points table despite Pant’s stellar comeback.
