IPL 2025: Three reasons why Punjab Kings lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad

Pat Cummins and his Sunrisers Hyderabad won their second game of the IPL 2025 season on Saturday. SRH beat Punjab Kings by eight wickets in what was the second-highest chase in the history of the tournament. Punjab batted first and scored 245 on the board as Shreyas Iyer hit 82 off 36 balls. Marcus Stoinis then hit Shami for four successive sixes to end the innings on a high.

In reply, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went after the PBKS bowlers. Sharma hit his maiden IPL ton and scored 141 off 55 balls. This was the highest individual score by an Indian batter going past the 132 scored by KL Rahul in the IPL 2020 season. SRH coasted to a win when Klaasen hit the winning runs and there was celebration in the home team camp.

Here are the three reasons why PBKS lost to SRH

3- Yash Thakur’s costly no-ball

Yash Thakur

Young Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur came into the game as an impact sub and nearly got the wicket of Abhishek Sharma. The right-arm pacer had Sharma caught in his first over of the game but much to the shock of the PBKS players the siren began to blare. It was seen that Thakur had bowled a huge no-ball and the bowler went back to the mark in despair. In the next ball, Sharma hit the free-hit for a six. This was a huge mistake in the game as Sharma made full use of the chance given to him and made the PBKS bowlers pay.

2- Glenn Maxwell’s bad form

Glenn Maxwell

Veteran Australian star Glenn Maxwell hasn’t enjoyed his time at Punjab Kings since his return to the side. The 36-year-old has managed to score just 34 runs with the bat and taken just two wickets so far this year. Maxwell’s form has been called out by many experts and his lack of bite with the ball against two left-handed batters was a huge letdown. PBKS coach Ricky Ponting has been known to back his players to the hilt but Maxwell’s form will be a huge cause of concern.

1- Continued failure of Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal

Out of favour, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has found going tough since his move to Punjab. The only bowler to take 200 wickets in the IPL has failed to pick wickets for PBKS when it was needed. The 34-year-old has been leaking runs in the tournament so far and it was evident in the game against SRH.
