In the 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 being held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel won the toss and elected to field first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). DC made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Faf du Plessis in place of Sameer Rizvi.

The match began with Mitchell Starc opening the bowling for DC. The first over went for seven runs, which included five wides that flew over the head of wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt. However, the momentum shifted in the second over, bowled by DC skipper, as RCB opener took charge and scored 16 runs, setting the tone early.

Starc returned for the third over, but it turned out to be a nightmare. The over went for a massive 30 runs, which included three boundaries and two sixes by Phil Salt, along with a four off leg byes from Virat Kohli. This became the second-most expensive over (25 runs) ever bowled by Starc in the IPL.

The onslaught began with a six over mid-on off the first delivery. The next three balls went for boundaries, one of which was a no-ball. The fourth delivery was top-edged for a six, and the final ball raced to the boundary for four byes. This explosive over also brought up RCB’s 50 in just three overs.

This 30-run over not only gave RCB a flying start but also registered their second-fastest team fifty in IPL history. Their fastest remains a 50 in just 2.3 overs, achieved against Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the same venue in 2011.

At the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar confirmed that the team remained unchanged. He emphasized the importance of putting up a good total and the need to win home matches to build momentum.

“We would have loved to chase, but the surface looks hard, we’ll look to put up a good total and defend it. I always back my instincts, but I do plan as well. It’s important to win home matches as well, important to have the momentum going. No changes for us,” said RCB skipper at the toss.
