NZ vs PAK 2025: Mohammad Rizwan-led Pakistan fined for slow over-rate in third ODI

Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Saturday. Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Mohammad Rizwan’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Rizwan plead guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. The on-field umpires Chris Brown and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Wayne Knights levelled the charge.

Disappointing series, but our focus is PSL now: Rizwan

The Men in Green were whitewashed by the hosts with the loss in Mount Maunganui on Saturday. This continues their streak of poor form in the format, following their shameful exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 at home. However, the Pakistan skipper is confident that the players will now switch their focus to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“It’s a disappointing series. Positives for us is the good touch of Babar Azam and Naseem Shah’s batting. Sufiyan bowled really well. I will give credit to New Zealand; they played really in all departments of the game. We need to play better against new ball. We will go back and discuss whatever we have learned from here. We are going to enjoy PSL; it’s a big tournament for us. We couldn’t do well in Champions trophy (and the series here) hopefully we will do well in PSL,” the captain said at the post-match party after the third ODI.

The PSL 2025 will be the tenth edition of the marquee tournament and will commence on April 11. This time, the event will be hosted across four venues – Multan, Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Rizwan will be seen plying his trade for Multan Sultans.
