[Watch] IPL 2025: MS Dhoni executes rapid-fire run-out to dismiss Ashutosh Sharma

MS Dhoni executed exceptional wicketkeeping skills during the ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals while running Ashutosh Sharma out in the final over of the tourists’ innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, April 5.

Ashutosh had just arrived at the crease after KL Rahul had been caught-behind for an impressive 77-run knock. Ashutosh inside-edged an inswinging yorker to the on-side off Matheesha Pathirana where Ravindra Jadeja was quick to get to the ball and release it. The flat throw caught the batter well short. Immediately after Dhoni collected the throw, he didn’t waste any time to catch Ashutosh way short of the crease.

Earlier in the day, DC opted to bat first on winning the toss. CSK got rid of Jake Fraser-McGurk pretty early on. However, KL Rahul and Abishek Porel ensured that the tourists could garner 51 off the powerplay. While the latter was dismissed for 33 off 20, the wicketkeeper-batter went on to play for almost the entirety of the innings.

Skipper Axar Patel and Sameer Rizvi gave Rahul company while themselves scoring crucial 20s. However, the two could not substantiate their time in the middle. Pathirana dismissed Rahul in the final over. A bouncer by the Sri Lankan speedster was gloved behind to Dhoni, a delivery prior to the former CSK skipper running Ashutosh out.

DC went on to post 183/6 on the board after 20 overs. Tristan Stubbs played a vital cameo (24* off 12) at the end. As for the hosts’ bowling attack, Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers. The left-arm seamer ended up with figures of 2/25 after four overs. Khaleel’s new-ball partner, Mukesh Choudhary (0/50 in four overs), proved quite expensive though.
