MI-W vs DC-W (2nd Match) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the thrilling 2nd Match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 between MI Women and DC Women, held under the lights in Vadodara on February 15. The match turned out to be a nail-biting contest, with Delhi Capitals Women securing a dramatic two-wicket victory off the final ball while chasing a target of 165. Despite a strong effort from Mumbai Indians Women, Delhi’s resilience and late-order heroics ensured they got over the line, making it an exciting fixture early in the tournament.
MI Women, after being put in to bat, had a shaky start as opener Hayley Matthews was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Shikha Pandey in the very first over. Yastika Bhatia, too, couldn’t make a significant impact, scoring 11 off 9 balls before falling to Pandey. However, the innings found stability through Nat Sciver-Brunt, who played a spectacular unbeaten knock of 80 off 59 balls, anchoring Mumbai’s innings. She displayed excellent stroke play, smashing 13 fours in her innings and maintaining a strike rate of 135.59.
She found strong support from Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who played an aggressive innings of 42 off just 22 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and three sixes at a blistering strike rate of 190.90. The duo stitched together a crucial 73-run partnership, ensuring that Mumbai reached a competitive total. After Harmanpreet’s dismissal in the 11th over, Amelia Kerr and Sajeevan Sajana failed to provide much support, contributing just 9 and 1 runs, respectively.
Mumbai’s lower order struggled against Delhi’s bowlers, losing wickets in quick succession, with the last five wickets falling for just 35 runs. Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, claiming 3 wickets for 34 runs in her 3.1 overs, while Shikha Pandey’s early breakthroughs proved crucial. Mumbai was eventually bowled out for 164 in 19.1 overs.
Chasing 165, DC got off to a flying start thanks to an explosive innings from Shafali Verma. The young opener played a breathtaking knock of 43 off just 18 balls, smashing seven boundaries and two sixes at an incredible strike rate of 238.88. Her aggressive intent put Mumbai’s bowlers under immediate pressure. However, Mumbai struck back, with Shabnim Ismail dismissing Captain Meg Lanning for 15 off 19 balls. This triggered a slight collapse as Jemimah Rodrigues and Annabel Sutherland departed cheaply, reducing Delhi to 76/4 in the ninth over.
The innings was then stabilized by Niki Prasad, who played a composed knock of 35 off 33 balls, guiding Delhi closer to the target. She was well supported by Alice Capsey (16 off 18) and Sarah Bryce, who played a quick cameo of 21 off just 10 balls. Despite Mumbai’s bowlers striking at regular intervals, Delhi kept finding crucial runs, ensuring the required run rate never spiraled out of control.
With just 15 needed off the final two overs, Mumbai fought back once again, picking up wickets and increasing the pressure. The game went down to the last over, with Delhi needing 5 runs. Niki Prasad fell in the penultimate delivery, leaving Delhi needing 2 runs off the final ball. Radha Yadav, showing nerves of steel, smashed a boundary to take Delhi home, securing a thrilling two-wicket win.
