England have finally got a sense of relief ahead of the Champions Trophy, with Ben Duckett all set to play after there were concerns regarding a left groin injury.

Duckett got injured while fielding during England’s 142-run defeat to India in Ahmedabad recently, sparking doubt over his availability for the tournament, which is commencing next week. However, scans and reports have confirmed that the left-handed batter is completely fit to feature in the tournament.

A statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said: “Scans on a left groin injury have confirmed that England Men’s batter Ben Duckett is fit and available for the ICC Champions Trophy.”

Duckett’s availability is a news of relief and joy for the England team management, who have toted a difficult time-frame under Brendon McCullum, the new white-ball head coach. Since taking charge at the beginning of 2025, McCullum has faced a strand of setbacks in his maiden ODI assignment including a 3-0 series defeat against India.

Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell had to drop out of the Champions Trophy due to a hamstring injury which has made England lose an all-rounder. The youngster has been replaced by wicketkeeper-batter Tom Banton, adding further alterations to England’s plan and preparations.

The squad is all set to arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday, February 18, ahead of their tournament opener against Australia on Saturday, February 22 in Lahore.

While England is polishing the team and will look to bounce back from their struggles faced against India, Duckett’s availability provides a vital confidence to their batting lineup.

England will be eager to make a strong start and put their recent setbacks behind them as their battle is beginning against arch-rivals Australia.
