Champions Trophy 2025: Jasprit Bumrah ruled out, Varun Chakravarthy added to final India squad

In a major blow to India, Jasprit Bumrah has not made it to the final 15-member squad of India for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy. A lower back injury has ruled out India’s fast-bowling spearhead out of the tournament, as clarified by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in the late hours of Tuesday, February 11.

Bumrah had been named in India’s provisional squad. However, his participation was subject to fitness. Harshit Rana, who made his ODI debut a few days back, has been named as his replacement. The road to recovery seems to have extended after he sustained a back spasm during the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy game against Australia in January, due to which the star performer had to make his way out of the field.

Rana made his international debut in the BGT. He recently became the first Indian to secure three wickets in each of his Test, ODI, and T20I debuts.

Chakravarthy replaces Jaiswal in a surprise move

Mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, who also made his ODI debut in the ongoing series against England, replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal as a last-minute inclusion to the unit. The former impressed in the recently concluded T20I series, ending up with 14 scalps in five games.

Jaiswal has been named as one of the non-travelling substitutes in addition to Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj. The three players will make their way to the United Arab Emirates if they are required India will kickstart their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 with their first Group A clash scheduled to be against Bangladesh.
