Ahmed Shehzad has been a unique case study for many to study in the realm of international cricket. The promising top-order batter, who was once acclaimed for his masterful strokeplay, now sees himself out of contention for several years.

Since making his international debut in 2009, he has represented Pakistan in 13 Tests, 81 ODIs, and 59 T20Is. The 33-year-old last featured for Pakistan in October 2019. In a recent discussion, he made a shocking revelation of himself being out of favour due to his charming physical attributes and alluring persona.

“Being good-looking has caused me a lot of problems. In our field, if you look good, know how to dress, and speak well, some people start to resent you,” shared Shehzad in a podcast with Ahmed Ali Butt, Pakistani actor and comedian.

It’s hard for some senior players to accept: Shehzad

Continuing on the same topic, Ahmed Shehzad also claimed that a lot of other Pakistani cricketers have also been on the receiving end of the same theme. He pointed out how it was difficult for the senior players to accept that a junior was on the rise and fans are appreciating the young player both in terms of gameplay and overall personality and recognition.

“I’ve been a target within the Pakistani team for this. I’m not defending myself here, but there are others who have also faced this. If your fan-following grows and people appreciate you, it’s hard for some senior players to accept. We come from small areas. I lived in Anarkali, Lahore, and when I gained recognition, I worked on grooming myself and improving my personality. But, this has also caused significant problems within Pakistan,” he added.

Speaking of Shehzad’s latest cricketing appearance on the field, it was for Water and Power Development Authority against Pakistan Television in the President’s Cup Grade-I tournament, where he was leading the former side. Although the 33-year-old has not announced international retirement yet, it is highly unlikely that he will get to don the national jersey of Pakistan again.
