Premium Bangladeshi all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, continues to face trouble about the legality of his bowling action. The Bangladesh Cricket Board recently revealed that the former skipper remains suspended from bowling across all competitions. An independent reassessment test was conducted at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai last month. The appraisal in Chennai had to be done after Shakib failed to pass the initial Tests in England.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board released a statement stating that Shakib was permitted to play as a batter.

“Consequently, the player’s existing suspension from bowling in international cricket following the initial independent assessment at the testing centre of Loughborough University in the UK also remains in place. A successful reassessment is required for the bowling suspension to be lifted. While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is eligible to continue playing as a batter in all forms of domestic and international cricket,” stated the BCB in an official statement.

A member of the selection panel admitted to Shakib’s chances of making it to the 15-member Champions Trophy 2025 as minimal if he is to play as a specialist batter.

“If he (Shakib) is not bowling, chances are slim (to play in the Champions Trophy). Tamim is sorted (having announced retirement), and Shakib needs to come after giving his third (bowling reassessment) test and I am in doubt regarding his chances in the tournament. So, you can say that we are preparing the squad without them (Tamim and Shakib) as we will not be thinking of Shakib if he is not bowling. If the BCB feels that he can come after the test, we can go for a replacement as we would have time,” added the member, as reported by Cricbuzz.

The seasoned veteran previously featured for Bangladesh while the side was on tour to India. He recently led the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10.
