India’s loss in the fourth Test against Australia at MCG have raised a lot of questions. It never looked like the Indian team would ever lose the match but they made a lot of schoolboy errors which cost them the match. The Australians were good enough to utilise the opportunity given by the Indians.
Now the Men in Blue are in a must-win situation for the fifth Test which is set to be played in Sydney starting on January 3. The win in the fifth Test will also keep alive the chances of the India team to qualify for the WTC 2025 final. However, there are multiple concerns for the team management to solve ahead of the fifth Test.
Here are the 3 changes India can make to win the 5th Test against Australia:
1. Give KL Rahul back his opening spot

KL Rahul is the third-highest scorer for India in the ongoing BGT 2024 series and most of the runs he has scored while opening the batting. However, the management decided to send him to bat at no. 3 and let skipper Rohit open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal but it didn’t work for India as both of them were unable to contribute to anything in both innings of the fourth Test. So, it would be good if Rahul is given back his opening spot.
2. Bench Rohit or Kohli and get Gill back in the team

Rohit and Virat Kohli’s form in the ongoing series has been the biggest concern for the Indian team. Kohli scored a century in the first Test but has disappointed a lot in the rest of the matches. On the other hand, Rohit missed the first Test and failed in all the next three matches. His highest score in the five innings is just 10 runs. He has scored a total of 31 runs in the series so far at an embarrassing average of 6.20.
3. Replace Akashdeep with Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna

Jasprit Bumrah has been the best bowler in the series so far and it won’t be wrong to say that he has been the lone warrior for the Indian team. However, he didn’t get enough support from the other bowlers. Bumrah has taken 30 wickets in the series so far. India’s second-best bowler in the series is Mohammed Siraj who has taken 16 wickets. However, the Indian team was unsuccessful in getting a consistent third pacer. India have tested Harshit Rana and Akashdeep for two Tests each and both have taken 4 wickets each. Prasidh Krishna might be given a chance to play in the fifth Test.
