Explore three GT players who might spend most of IPL 2025 on the bench. The 2022 IPL champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) didn’t have a great season in 2024. Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians and Shubham Gill was given the responsibility to lead the team. Gill will continue to lead the team and he will also have Rashid Khan by his side who has lots of experience in the shortest format of the game.
GT had a decent auction for the 2025 season, however, the biggest and the most talked-about signing in the auction by GT was the star England batter, Jos Buttler. However, there are also some players who got picked by GT but are unlikely to get a chance to play.
Here are the 3 GT players who could stay on bench during IPL 2025:
1. Sherfane Rutherford (2.60 Crores)

The West Indies middle-order batter, Sherfane Rutherford has played 28 T20Is for the Caribbean side. In these appearances, he has scored only 428 runs in 23 innings, with a below-par batting average of 25.17, hitting only two half-centuries.
Speaking of performances in the other T20 games across various franchise leagues and different stages, he has made 135 batting appearances, scoring only 2471 runs, with a ‘not so impressive’ average of 23.09. Having the batters like Shahrukh Khan, Mahipal Lomror, and Anuj Rawat in the middle-order, it seems nearly impossible for Rutherford to make it to the GTs playing XI in the IPL 2025.
2. Manav Suthar (65 Lakhs)

Rajasthan’s young bowling all-rounder, Manav Suthar was roped in by PBKS for an amount of INR 65 Lakhs in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has played 15 T20s so far in his domestic career, including an appearance for GT in the last season. Suthar has scalped only 10 wickets in 15 bowling appearances in T20s, with a below-par bowling strike rate of 25.6.
There are already a few ‘bowling all-rounder’ names in the GT squad, including the likes of Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, and Rashid Khan. Their presence might make it very hard for the 22-year-old young lad to make a way to the playing XI in the IPL 2025.
3. Karim Janat (75 Lakhs)

There is another bowling all-rounder, who was picked by GT for 75 Lakhs in the IPL 2025 mega auction’s accelerated session. However, his bowling numbers have not been impressive in international cricket, scalping only 42 wickets in 49 innings and including only one five-wicket haul. He also has an expensive economy rate of 8.19 in his T20I career.
The similar concern of playing as a ‘bowling all-rounder’ in GT’s Playing XI also stands for Karim Janat due to the presence of some established names in the squad. So, it would not be a surprise to see Karim Janat getting benched during the entire IPL 2025.
