At one stage it looked like the visiting side would cruise home to an easier win having needed just 20 runs from 4 overs. Sri Lanka rallied back and gave Rovman Powell and his team a mighty scare. 

It was the home team that batted first and scored 179 on the board. Skipper Charith Asalanka was the best batter with 59 runs from 35 balls with 9 fours. Kamindu Mendis continued his amazing form to score 51 off 40 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes in his knock. 

In reply West Indian openers Brandon King and Evin Lewis scored 63 and 50 respectively to add 107 runs for the 1st wicket. Sherfane Rutherford’s 14 not out meant West Indies won the game by 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare.

Evin Lewis made a tremendous return to international cricket. The left-handed batter scored 50 off just 28 balls with five fours and 4 sixes. Brandon King on the other hand scored 63 off 33 balls with 11 fours and a six. The pair put up 107 runs in 9.1 overs for the 1st wicket while chasing 180 to win. 

Middle Order –

Wicketkeeper batter Shai Hope scored 7 runs off 6 balls and also was safe behind the stumps. Roston Chase scored 19 with the bat bowled four overs without picking a wicket and went for 29 runs. Rovman Powell struggled with the bat as he scored just 13 runs from 18 balls with 1 four in his innings. 

Lower-order –

If West Indies have to win the 2nd game and seal the series their lower middle order has to come to the fore. Sherfane Rutherford is a dangerous batter and is also adept at finishing the innings. Romario Shepherd will also be a key player with the bat and ball for the West Indian side. Shamar Springer continued his good CPL form as he picked 1/25 with the ball and pacer Alzarri Joseph bowled 4 overs and picked 1/40.
