Aaron Finch suddenly retires from ODI cricket

It was as if lightning without clouds on the Australian team. Australian captain Aaron Finch suddenly announced his retirement from ODI cricket. The last match of the ODI series against New Zealand at home is going to be the star opener’s last ODI match. Cricket Australia has confirmed the retirement of the Australian captain.

Finch has been out of form in this format for a long time. This year he played a total of 13 ODI matches for the country and scored 169 runs. In the last 5 of 12 innings, has been dismissed for zero runs. Many believe that his lack of form in ODIs is the main reason for his retirement.

On retirement, Finch said, “It’s been a great journey. There have been some incredible memories. I feel lucky to be part of a great ODI team. Equally lucky to have played with and worked with the people behind the scenes.”

Meanwhile, the Australian Cricket Board wished the captain farewell. The board’s chief executive, Nick Hockley, said in a statement about Finch’s retirement: “On behalf of Australian cricket, I would like to congratulate Aaron on his vast contribution as the captain of the Australian Men’s ODI team and as a wonderful exponent of the 50-over format. ”

Finch has played 145 ODIs in Australia’s jersey. Since his debut in 2013, he has scored a total of 5041 runs at an average of 39.13. Finch has 17 centuries and 30 fifties.

The opener, who won the 2015 ODI World Cup for Australia, led the team in 54 matches. He was supposed to lead the Australian team until the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, Finch said that he will continue to play T20 even though he retires from ODI.

Under the leadership of Finch, Australia became the champion for the first time in the last Twenty20 World Cup. This time in the T20 World Cup, under the leadership of Finch, the Australian team will embark on a mission to retain the title.
