Top 3 batting performances of Reeza Hendricks in T20Is

Reeza Hendricks is one of the most aggressive openers in limited-overs cricket. The right-hander made his debut for South Africa in the T20I format in 2014, following a strong performance in the domestic circuit for Knights. His ability to go berserk right from the word go sets him apart.

The Kimberley cricketer has represented the Rainbow Nation in 34 ODIs and 68 T20Is, scoring 929 runs and 1942 runs, respectively. Although he announced his arrival in ODIs with a scintillating century, Hendricks’ forte is considered to be the shorter format. As the star opener celebrates his 25th birthday, let’s take a look at three of his best batting performances in T20Is.

Here are Reeza Hendricks’ top 3 knocks in T20Is

3. 70(50) vs England, 2022, The Rose Bowl, Southampton

South Africa, who were invited to bat first by England in the third Test, suffered an early blow with the dismissal of Quinton de Kock for a duck. However, on the back of Hendricks’ 70 off 50 and Aiden Markram unbeaten 51, they reached a competitive total of 191/5. England, in reply, were bundled out for 101 as the Proteas registered a massive 90-run victory.

2. 74(41) vs Pakistan, 2019, Newlands, Cape Town

Another notable contribution from Hendricks helped South Africa reach a safer position in the first T20I against Pakistan. His 41-ball 74 and captain Faf du Plessis’ 78 took the hosts to 192/6 after batting first. Pakistan fought hard but fell six runs short. Interestingly, it was David Miller who received the Player of the Match award due to his fielding prowess (4 catches).

1. 87(51) vs West Indies, 2024, Kingston

Hendricks recorded his highest T20I score in the first match of the 2024 series against West Indies. Batting first, the Windies posted 175/8 on the back of captain Brandon King’s brilliant half-century. Barring Hendricks, none of the Proteas batters found resistance which resulted in their dismissal for 147 runs. The right-hander opener’s 87 off 51 balls went in vain as the hosts won by 28 runs.
