Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the best ODI bowlers of his time. The leg-spinner was a wicket-taker and picked them at regular junctures to put pressure on the opponents. Along with Kuldeep Yadav, he formed a great spin duo which was famously known to be ‘Kulcha’. At their best, the duo was nearly unplayable and claimed the wickets of some of the best batters in the middle overs.
In ODIs, Chahal bowled some terrific spells. He was at his best in the period 2017-19. The traditional leg-spinner had the ability to win matches on his own in some difficult conditions too. Many of his best performances came away from home. There are many instances where his bowling changed the complexion of the game. It is time to look at some of the best bowling performances of Yuzvendra Chahal in ODIs.
1. 4/46 vs South Africa

It was the third ODI between India and South Africa. Batting first, India posted 303/6 on the board, thanks to a great hundred by Virat Kohli. On a slow wicket, it was a great total. The Indian bowlers showed how to bowl on a wicket like the one in Cape Town. Chahal turned out to be the pick of the lot.
The leg-spinner claimed 4/46 in his 9 overs. Most importantly, he claimed the wickets of some of the dangerous batters like JP Duminy, Heinrich Klaasen, and Khaya Zondo. His spell ensured India won the match comfortably by 124 runs. To date, it is India’s biggest win against SA in their own backyard in ODIs.
2. 5/22 vs South Africa

A match before the above-mentioned one, Chahal produced a great spell. In many ways, the South African tour of 2018 was the best for Chahal. Bowling first, India reduced the home side to a paltry total of 118 runs. The Indian spin duo ran through the batting lineup of the home side and claimed wickets for fun.
Chahal was the most impressive of all. The leggie claimed 5/22 in his spell of 8.2 overs which included a maiden over. Yuzi dismissed the likes of Quinton De Kock, JP Duminy, Khaya Zondo, Chris Morris, and Morne Morkel. For his amazing spell, Chahal won the Player of the Match award in India’s comfortable 9-wicket win.
3. 6/42 vs Australia

It has been the career-best spell of Yuzvendra. The match took place at the iconic MCG. It was the decider of the series between India and Australia. The home side collapsed from 100/2 at one stage to 230. Chahal was the wrecker-in-chief who claimed a whopping 6 wickets, the most for an Indian spinner in away conditions in an ODI.
The star bowler claimed the wickets of some good batters like Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, and Marcus Stoinis along with the likes of Jhye Richardson and Adam Zampa. His spell of 6/42 set India for the match. The visiting side beat Australia by 7 wickets and registered their maiden bilateral series win in Australia.
